VIRGIN COLOR

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

COLOR RETOUCH

A Retouch is booked when it is only necessary to color the new growth of the hair.

This is a service that you would only book if your hair was previously colored, and you liked the color of your hair.

Retouches should be booked at intervals of 4-6 weeks for Solid Colors and 8-12 weeks for Highlights. Waiting longer than recommended between Retouches will result in longer regrowth requiring more time and product to complete and will ultimately increase the cost.

RETOUCH AND GLOSS

A Retouch and Gloss is used to color the new growth and refresh the color on the previously colored hair.

GLOSS

A Gloss is used to balance or enhance the tone of the hair and to add shine. A Gloss can be combined with any color service or may be booked as a service by itself to tint or simply add shine without altering the color.

HIGHLIGHTS

The term Highlight is used any time we are adding lighter pieces of hair into the base color. Highlights can be achieved by Foiling, Frosting, Balayage or using a combination of those methods.

LOWLIGHTS

Lowlights are very similar to highlights; the difference is that the strands of hair would be colored darker than the base color.

FULL

The term Full can be applied to services in two ways.

1.   You want Highlights all over your head from the bang to the nape of your neck, including the hair underneath the top layers.

2.   You are trying to achieve a very light Highlight. At 1630 Hair Artisans we have a set number of foils that we consider a Partial Foil, a set number that we consider a Full Foil and when we go over that number additional charges apply. This means that if you want an extremely light foil, we may need to use a full set but the hair underneath may not necessarily be colored

It is possible to have a very light highlight all over the head, however be advised that extra foils will need to be used and extra time will need to be booked. Please call the salon to book if this is the service you are interested in.

PARTIAL

A Partial service usually means that the color is being focused on the top, front and sides of the head.

For a Partial Foil, as long as we are using 40 or less foils, they can be placed anywhere on the head.

FOIL

Foiling is a technique using foil sheets to isolate strands of hair for coloring or lightening resulting in contrast throughout the length of the hair.

BALAYAGE

Balayage is a French word meaning “to sweep” or “to paint”.

We like to describe it as Custom Hand Painted Highlights. This can allow for a sun-kissed natural look, or can be done for a higher contrast color. It is typically done to look a little bit grown in and rooted, but can also be done close to the scalp

OMBRE

Ombre’ is a gradual shift in color typically from dark at the root to light at the ends of the hair. Ombre’ is most often achieved through a Full Virgin Balayage.

FROST

A Frost is a method of highlighting or lowlighting in which strands of hair are isolated by being pulled through a cap that covers the head.

Frosts are best for hair that is shoulder length or shorter. For longer hair we recommend Foiling.

LIGHTENER AND GLOSS

Lightener is used to remove natural or artificial pigment from the hair. A Gloss is used to balance or enhance the tone of the hair and to add shine. A Lightener and Gloss is used when you want to achieve higher levels of blonde.

A Lightener and Gloss Retouch is applied on your regrowth to lift the hair to the level of the rest of the hair and may only be booked if your new growth is ½ and inch or less.

A Full Lightener and Gloss must be booked if the new growth is more than a ½ inch from the scalp up to 4 inches.

A Virgin Lightener and Gloss Must be booked if the new growth is 4 inches or longer or if this is the first Lightener and Gloss.

CORRECTIVE COLOR

Corrective color can mean many things. Please call the salon for a Consultation if you suspect that your hair needs fall into any of the categories listed below.

1. Color was performed at home or at another salon and you are not happy with the results.

2. Color was previously applied to the hair and you would like to go lighter.

3. Fashion color was applied to the hair and you would like to change the color or go back to a natural color.

4. Your hair is light and you want to go more than two shades darker.

Corrective Color often requires many steps and may not be attained in a single appointment. Please exercise patience and expect for your budget to be stretched when choosing a drastic change for your color.

1630 Hair Artisans carries the very best corrective hair color products and all stylists are trained in advanced color correction. Booking a Consultation will ensure that you and your stylist can create a realistic plan to achieve the hair of your dreams.

FASHION COLOR

Fashion Color refers to colors that aren’t naturally found in hair. Think of the bright vivids or the smoky pastels.

Almost all Fashion Color services require a Lightener prior to the color application.

To book Fashion Color please call the salon or book a complimentary Consultation.
